The Second HKU Libraries x Chamber of Young Snow Culture Festival, under the theme The Cultural Continuum in Hong Kong, continues the cultural platform established by the inaugural Festival and further explores Hong Kong’s distinctive role in the inheritance and modern transformation of Chinese art in the twentieth century. As the highlight exhibition of this year’s Festival, Confluence of Ink and Legacy: Southbound Masters in Hong Kong features selected works from the Chamber of Young Snow collection, presenting the artistic journeys of southbound masters including Li Yanshan, Ding Yanyong, Zhao Shaoang, Lu Shoukun and Huang Yongyu. Through their works, the exhibition reveals how these artists carried forward the tradition of Chinese brush and ink while developing their own creative paths in Hong Kong, a city shaped by openness, cultural exchange and East–West encounters.
Following the ceremony, Dr. Stephen Suen, Founder of Chamber of Young Snow, delivered the opening seminar, Ding Yanyong: East–West Synthesis in Ink that examined how ink art in Hong Kong evolved between tradition and modernity, and between Eastern and Western artistic languages.
